Algebra 1

This course is designed to emphasize the study of multiple representations of linear and non- linear functions. It includes mathematical concepts for working with rational numbers, various expressions, analyzing and solving linear equations & inequalities, data analysis, probability, statistics, and polynomials.

  • We reviewed addition and subtraction of fractions: lines and segments and that mathematical lines have no width and no ends; types of angles, polygons, triangles, and quadrilaterals; perimeter and circumference; counting and real numbers; number lines; multiplication and division of fractions and other basic operations; unit multipliers for conversion of one type of unit to another.

  • We learned about number sets, absolute value, addition of signed numbers, how to algebraically add signed numbers, the importance of inserting mental parentheses, opposite numbers, simplifying more difficult notations, and area of rectangles, triangles, circles and parallelograms.

October 3, 2017

We learned rules for multiplying and dividing signed numbers.  We went over specifications when using zero in fractions.  We also learned about using unit multipliers to convert area from one unit of measurement to another.  We reviewed reciprocals/multiplicative inverses, orders of operation that include symbols, and identifying multiplication and addition in longer expressions.

We learned how to evaluate algebraic expressions to find values for variables.  We also learned how to find the surface area of geometric solids.
