This year in Art History we will explore artists and illustrators from right here in the United States! Frank Lloyd Wright, Louis Comfort Tiffany, Clementine Hunter, Ted DeGrazia and many more! We will learn about their artistic style and what inspires their creativity. You will be creating your own art inspired by them. All new projects!

Please text me if you will miss a class (520) 904-3112. Letting me know is the only way to be excused and not lose points.

Mrs. Boone

If you have an unexcused absence, you may turn in extra credit to get those points back. Write a paragraph on one of the artists we have talked about in class or a different American artist or illustrator. Include at least three facts about them.

Welcome to Art History! This year we began our tour of All American artistic styles by meeting Ansel Adams. Adams was a photographer who specialized in black and white photos. He loved our national parks and is known worldwide for his stunning landscape photography. We made a landscape painting using just one color and white. By mixing tints of our main color-our paintings were monochromatic.

  • If you would like, you may bring in small toys, plastic or wooden objects to place in your artwork next week. I have been collecting yummy randomness for months and can't wait to see what you can do with it.

Last week we learned about glass artist Louis Comfort Tiffany, son of the famous Tiffany jeweler. We saw photos of his work with hundreds, sometimes thousands of individual pieces of colored glass! Your ‘stained glass’ windows are so pretty in the sunlight!
For the next couple of weeks we are making art in the style of James Rizzi, another American Pop Artist. You are really using your imagination to fill your paper with images. Next week we will begin painting and then add some 3D elements!

Sorry about the interruption of our James Rizzi project. Thank you to Mrs. Hemphill for helping me out so we didn’t need to cancel class!
Next week we will be painting our Rizzi cityscapes with watercolor. You will be amazed at how they ‘come alive’!
Our next project is Cartooning!!
Thank you for texting me when you will be absent so I can mark you excused.

Good job on the James Rizzi cityscapes!!
We began our unit on Cartooning by learning about Charles Schulz. Be thinking about
your cartoon character-real or imagined, animal, human or? You will be drawing a 1 or more panel cartoon using your character when we return on Nov 29.

We started January off with some Color Mixing with Play Doh!! Mixing colors was a great introduction to our featured artist, Frank Stella. His art uses colors in a very different way and we used paper strips to create some beautiful designs. Stella continues to make art in his New York studio.
Our next project will be SWEET! Don’t miss it!

Our unit on artist Peter Anton produced some sweeeet candy hearts! I’ll need to find a BIG bowl to put those in for the Art Show! The older kids made a box of Valentine candy!
Last week we learned about Clementine Hunter, a Primitive artist from Louisiana. Next week we will do the background and paint our Weather Vanes!
Fine Arts Festival is coming up in May! All of your artwork will be displayed in real Art Gallery style! You will need to collect your artwork from the festival. I will let you know more about that in class.
