We learned about George Rodrigue and his "Blue Dog". You got to paint your own dog on canvas! "The Scream" is Edvard Munch's most famous painting. You did a self portrait with oil pastels and added "drippy" hair! I love how they turned out. Next we learned how Dr. Seuss wasn't a doctor at all. You drew some very creative pets!
The Art Show will be in the evening on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, May 9 ,11 and 12 at Oro Valley Church of the Nazarene. The church is at 500 West Calle Concordia.
Please vote for art classes you hope to take next year!

You guys "rocked" the Henri Matisse fish bowls and the Paul Cezanne fruit bowl projects!! It was fun to use candy to make Andy Goldsworthy inspired art. I'm glad you liked the book about Van Gogh's cat! Your cat sculptures are amazing! Now you will recognize Piet Mondrian's art when you see it. Your primary color art was so bright and beautiful! There are lots of great projects to come. Painting on canvas!, Dr Seuss, splatter painting and melting clocks!

Happy New Year! I hope you enjoyed your time off. We will spend one more week finishing our Georgia O'Keeffe project. You did an awesome job drawing the cow skull! We will weave our Indian blanket with the papers you. Excoriated before Christmas, cut out the skull and attach it. I'm sure you will be pleased with the result!  Coming up-Painting with scissors!!

We had fun creating "tall" sculptures with chenille stems and aluminum foil. We made them tall and thin like Swiss born artist, Alberto Giacometti.
Another Swiss artist is Paul Klee (Clay). We drew cats of all kinds and will paint them using water and "bleeding" tissue paper. I know these will turn out great!
Next, we will learn about an American artist born on Nov. 15. Happy Birthday, Georgia O'Keeffe!
No classes next week-Happy Thanksgiving!!!

We had fun making our own custom puzzle in the style of pop artist Romero Britto! And we ALL colored a big poster for the Art Show! Your Picasso roosters turned out spectacular!! How did you like painting with a fork? The art projects that you make in class are stored until the Quest Fine Arts Festval in May. After the Art Show, you may take all of your art home.

Next, a fun sculpture project!  We will also be working on a collaborative piece of art that will be at the auction during the Quest Fall Gala on Nov. 11. I hope you will plan on attending! I will have a Christmas card making booth starting at 4:00. Donations to Quest are appreciated.

Our lesson on Frida Kahlo gave us a paper flower collage complete with monkeys! Next we learned about Robert Indiana and made our LOVE piece with chalk pastels on wet paper. This week we started a PUZZLE project in the style of Romero Britto. We will work on these a bit more next week. See you then!!

Art History. Sept 24, 2016
Welcome to Art History! The first artist's birthday we celebrated was Dale Chihuly-Sept 20.  Mr. Chihuly is a glass sculptor. We painted some plastic dishes and then melted them to look like glass sculptures! It was fun watching the plastic bend and shrink!
(Aprons are available at the front desk for a donation to Quest)
